CALAIS - FRANCE - 20 May 2015 -- In October 2015 a French ship will start laying a 1200 km long subsea optical cable from Helsinki to Rostock Germany. - The 100 million Euro subsea optical cable is produced in the Alcatel-Lucent cable factory, which is the largest in the world. -- In the subsea optical cable there are 4 pairs of optical cables, which each have a thickness of around 8 hair. A pair of optical cables can transfer around 127 terabits / second of data.
